biografie: Dr. Yvette Luiking

Dr. Luiking studied Human Nutrition at the Wageningen University and graduated in 1994. During her study she specialized in physiology and epidemiology and her graduation research was focused on this direction. She continued her research as a PhD student at the Departments of Surgery and Gastroenterology of the University Hospital in Utrecht, and received her PhD degree in 1999 on a thesis entitled 'Regulation of gastrointestinal and gallbladder motility – involvement of motilin and bile'. Next, she started as a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Human Biology of Maastricht University on a project entitled 'Interaction between the effects of palmitic and linoleic acids on apoB-100 metabolism and fatty-acid oxidation in man'. From 2001, she is a postdoctoral fellow at the Metabolism and Nutrition Group of the Department of Surgery of Maastricht University Hospital. Her research is focused on protein and amino acid metabolism and gut function in critically ill patients in the ICU (mainly sepsis).
