biografie: H.G. Wells

Herbert George Wells [Bromley, Kent 1866 - London 1946]

Wells wordt gezien als de vader van de moderne Science Fiction. Hij studeerde biologie en was enkele jaren werkzaam in het onderwijs, waarna hij zich ontwikkelde tot een vruchtbaar en veelzijdig auteur.
De thema’s die hij een eeuw geleden introduceerde zijn tot op de dag van vandaag inspiratiebronnen voor hedendaagse schrijvers en filmregisseurs. Als jong auteur werd hij beroemd met zijn meesterlijke science fiction romans. Later heeft hij nog verschillende romans en sociaal maatschappelijke werken geschreven, maar de critici en recensenten hebben altijd gezegd dat hij nooit meer het niveau haalde van de meesterwerken die hij eind 19e eeuw schreef.
